Welcome to the Order of St. Luke the Physician [OSL] UK website.   We hope that you will find here clear pointers to OSL’s work in the Christian Healing Ministry, which is part of the ministry of all believers.  The Order’s mission is two fold; it seeks to promote the healing ministry as commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ and it seeks to work alongside medical practitioners, to whom, over the centuries, God has given insight and guidance in the treatment of all kinds of ailments.   We do not seek to replace medical expertise, but to complement it.   As Christians we respect the wisdom of the doctor and of the priest, the medical and the spiritual, standing alongside the person who is ill and helping them to integrate these two channels of God’s healing touch and thus playing our part in enabling each person in need to become whole in body, mind and spirit.

We are an ecumenical healing order open to laity and clergy and, in common with other religious orders, we ask of our members a commitment to a Rule of Life.  This is explained in the section on the teachings of the order.

Is any one of you sick?   He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.   And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well;  the Lord will raise him up.   If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.   Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.   The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
